Condoland a site-specific work reflecting the recent urban architectural boom of towering glass condominiums in Toronto’s downtown core. This project aims to explore geometries and topologies of an ever-changing city, bending to its seasons, its temperaments and its inhabitants. As a veritable glass condoland has emerged out of a neglected neighborhood, Toronto faces a new type of architectural apogee since its Brutalist renaissance in the 1960s & 1970s. But how will these glass enclosures be seen in the future?
Will they befall the same type of idealistic failure associated with its concrete counterparts? How are we building our new vertical cities? What will become of the mirror sunlight reflecting back and forth between the CN Tower and King Street? The work attempts to fracture, fold and stitch together a diverse landscape and gives us pause to reflect on the ever evolving state of our living city.
